What October Means to Me

Alright, we're going to get serious today. I am going to start this post off with a possible trigger warning.

October is most known for Halloween and Breast Cancer Awareness. However, something that a lot of people do not realize is that October is also National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

I love numbers and statistics, so we will start off with those.

  • 25% of women (yes, that's one in four) have experienced domestic violence
  • Every 9 seconds (in the US) a woman is assaulted or beaten
  • 85% of those victims are women, the other 15% are men
  • Women between the ages of 20-24 are at the greatest risk
  • Separated or divorced individuals are at a higher risk as well
  • Men who as children witnessed their parents’ domestic violence were twice as likely to abuse their own wives than sons of nonviolent parents.
  • Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women
  • 74% of American's personally know someone that has been the victim of domestic violence
  • 50% of men that assault their wives, also assault their children
  • Everyday in the US, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends.
I was even surprised by some of these numbers.

If you're a victim, please, please seek help. I didn't and I wish I would have. You are NOT alone. You do NOT deserve this. And NONE of it is your fault. Each of the pictures I've posted is a link to different hotlines and help programs. Please seek help. You deserve it.

Is it seriously already Monday? Why oh why can't the weekend just go on forever? Why can't I just get paid for waking up? Come on now, I'd be rich! I'd even take naps so that I could wake up more often. That would be the bees knees!

Weekend recap perhaps?

Friday I took the day off and went to H's costume parade. You know this already. I also cleaned my house like a crazy lady. Seriously. Insert OCD. Also got a smidgen of homework done. Woot.

Saturday I went and cleaned my mom's master bathroom. I almost killed myself broke several bones in the process of cleaning her gigantic whirlpool jacuzzi tub thing. It has this big, raised, window seat type thing along the back of the tub that I had to clean too. So my clumsy ass had to climb up there to be able to even reach it. I get up there just fine and sit on it while I'm cleaning it (it goes the full length of the tub. Sorry, I fail and didn't get a picture.). All is well in the world until I realize I have to get down. So I do what any self respecting klutz woman does. Called for my mommie. She laughed at me because there I was, standing on the back of her tub asking her how I was supposed to get down without killing myself. So she holds out her hand to help me down.....Have I mentioned that I'm a klutz? Even with her help I still almost ate shit. My foot hit a wet spot and down I was going. Had she not been there, I would've been in the ER.

Oh, and I had to run the jets with bleach water to get to the hard to reach places. This was the end result:

Oh NO!!!! We've hit the bubble-burg! Abandon ship!!!

Yeah, I'm cool like that. I also used this pinterest pin to work on the soap scum in her stand up shower. (Again, I fail, no pictures). Mix equal parts (heated up) vinegar and blue dawn in a spray bottle, spray, scrub, scum be gone. I determined that the key factor here is that the vinegar needs to be hot for this to work so I would suggest only mixing small portions at a time. Also, next time I try it, I'm going to try less soap.

Also, I had a good day self image wise. I actually felt like I was losing weight for the first time. I know I see the numbers, but I felt like I could actually see/feel it for myself and felt really good about what I'm doing for the first time. So I took a picture

Drank a really awesome coffee beer.

Agreed to puppy-sit this adorable little bugger:

Then carved these (I'll have better pictures up on Wednesday):
silly puppy got in the way

I have a serious post coming up tomorrow about what October means to me. I know the month is almost over, but it took me a while to write.

Friday, October 26, 2012

I took the day off of work today so that I could make it to H's costume parade at her daycare today. I saw a chance for a 3 day weekend and I jumped on it!

Those kids were too friggin cute! I saw a Mario and Luigi pair, lots of batmen and batgirls, a few strawberry shortcakes, tinkerbells, and the infants and really young toddlers were sooooooo adorable!!! I took pictures of random children that I've never met but they were so cute, how could I not?!

Here's H. I'll be good and not post pictures of other people's children even though they are so cute it would crash the internet.

Her teacher even dressed up!

I've been working on a serious post for the better part of the month and I'm hoping to have it up before the month is over. Keep an eye out.

Holy schnikies batman, is this really happening?! I believe it is. Susan from Susan Today, nominated me for the Liebster award.

Random side note, 'Liebster' is German and depending on the context can mean a few different things, dearest, beloved, favorite, sweetheart, etc. I'm assuming that it this context it means favorite. (Though, I'll take beloved too) This seriously made my day Susan, you rock the casbah! True story!

So here are the rules:

- Each person tagged must post 11 things about themselves.
- They must also answer 11 questions the tagger has set for them.
- They must create 11 more questions to ask bloggers they have decided to tag.
- They must then choose 11 bloggers to tag with less than 200 followers.
- These lucky bloggers must be told.
- There are NO TAG BACKS.
My 11 things:
  •  I'm obsessed in love with all things Batman...I've even been dubbed Batman Becca by some.

  • I love my friends' children as if they were my own. Yes, all of them
  • I abhor politics
  • I love to make others laugh, even if it's at my own expense (that can range anywhere from dancing like an idiot, to making faces, to pointing out my 9831867354.75 blonde moments, to..well, pretty much anything)
  • I love the Astros even when they fail miserably
  • My only sibling is my brother that is almost 18 years younger than me
  • I still love Disney Movies
  • I want to adopt a child one day
  • If someone comes into my house and it's clean AND something has been baked....someone, somewhere is in DEEP shit. When I get mad I clean or bake so when it's both, you're royally effed.
  • I put everyone else before me often times too much
  • I am the clumsiest person you'll ever know. Seriously. Do you know anyone that's actually fallen UP the stairs? Because I have.

Susan's 11 for me:

 1. Are you a sports fan?  If so, which sport & what teams?
I wouldn't say I'm a die hard fan by any means but I love me some baseball. Astros baby! I don't care if they're the worst team in the league because guess what? We're changing leagues!
2. What is your 3 most favorite words? (thanks, Rants from Mommyland)
Phrase: Holy schnikies batman!, Holy crap-turds!, or *insert noun here* rocks the casbah! (I love that song)

Words: Persnickety. I don't really say this one that often but I love it! It's so much fun to say. Go on...Say it...you know you want to. I'll wait. ....   .....  ..... that was fun wasn't it!

Pamphlet: Again, not something that I say on a regular basis but I love the word. Say it enough and you'll question whether or not you're saying it correctly.
Awesomesauce: Someone said this to me one day and it was just fun! I added it into my mental dictionary and have ran with it since.
3. What was your first job?
I worked at Whataburger. I did everything there. Seriously. It was nuts. They even trusted to to double check the till at the end of the night.
4. What is your favorite song to exercise to?
Anything with a good beat. I don't really have a favorite because I have such a vast range of music that I enjoy.
5.  If you could travel to anywhere, where would it be?
I've already been to London and REALLY want to go back. I loved it there. Other than that, Italy, Germany, or Australia.
6. What is your least favorite cleaning activity?
Does everything count? No seriously, putting up laundry! I'll wash it, that's fine but I loathe putting it away. I can't tell you how many times I've dug clothes out of a laundry basket full of clean clothes 2-3 days after they've been washed.
7. How many US states have you been to?
I've been to 4: Texas (I live here, duh), Louisiana, Florida, and Idaho but I've also been through  Mississippi and Alabama (We drove to Fl)

8. Do you have a favorite adult beverage, and what is it?
Lynchburg Lemonade!! Jack, Triple Sec, Sweet and Sour, and Sprite. holy woah is it amazing!

9.  Who inspires you to be healthy?
My family. I want to set a good example for my daughter and I want my family to see that it can be done. That it doesn't matter how much you have to lose, how long it takes, or how long you've needed to lose the weight, that it can be done and that we can be healthy.  I'm hoping that once they see enough of my progress that they will join me
10. How much television do you watch?
Probably more than I should. When I took my leave of absence from school I had all of this spare time so I got caught up in all of these dumb shows. School is back though so they will have to go. :)
11. What one food could you not live without?
Only one? ummm, Cheese? Bread? Potatoes? Can I just have them all? Pretty please with cherries on top? For the sake of variety I'll go with Italian food. Final Answer.
Your 11 things:
  1. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
  2. What is your favorite healthy version of an unhealthy meal?
  3. Think back to when you were a kid. What is your favorite memory?
  4. Most embarrassing moment. Or at least one that's pretty high up there.
  5. Favorite TV show(s)?
  6. Explain one of your major goals in life. What, why, how, the works.
  7. Favorite room in your house?
  8. Would you ever go bungee jumping or sky diving?
  9. What what the first thing you thought about this morning?
  10. Most preferred form of exercise?
  11. If you were a pirate, what would your name be? (Or some other fact about alternate universe pirate you)

And the nominees are!!!!!!
Diane from Just Simply D
Erin from She's a Big Star
Mama Aja from Mommy's on a Mission
Leigh Ann from Elle Noel
Annie at Crazy Simple Momma
Amanda from Simply Sarchet
Jenn from Just Jenn
Kim at Growing with the Gilmores
Karie from Carrot Cake and Jeans
Angela from Lots of Words Little Thought
Julie from Mom Taxi Julie

Weigh-in Wednesday & Weekend Recap

It's Wednesday and I'm FINALLY posting again. Sorry guys, it's been nuts. School started again for me yesterday. I'm excited and dreading it both at the same time.

What does Wednesday mean??? My dreaded date with the scale. Last week I saw a 1.4 pound increase. BOOO! Well, this week I lost that 1.4 pounds again along with an additional .6 more. That's right, 2 whole pounds.

My calf is still freaking killing me and I want to go run sooo bad but when I try I think I'd rather hack my leg off with a dull butter knife. So wait it out it is. I've been icing, stretching, and using an ace bandage. Which by the way, I had to buy another one. What the frick man? I own about 12 billion of them yet I can't find any of them. Someone this clumsy has a surplus of ace bandages....trust me.

Onto the weekend! It was pretty fantabulous. I got my "me" day on Saturday (Thanks Granny, you're the bees knees!) and took advantage of it. I started off with an extra long, extra scalding hot shower. Then I went to this place:

And was it amazing! The people there are super nice and awesome. True story. They even let me run up and down the sidewalk of the strip center in two different pairs of shoes to figure out which one was best. I left with a pair of these:

Aren't they amazing! It was a choice between those and a pair of Brooks.
Talk about the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I'm in love.

Then I went home to relax a bit more, drank some coffee, watched some TV, was an all around bum. I wanted to run but the (incredibly short) run from testing my shoes already had me wishing that I didn't have a leg. So yes, I was icing my leg while watching TV and drinking coffee.

Once my leg felt better, I ran to target to pick up a new sports bra, a light weight jacket (it's starting to get chilly) and a new pair of pants to run in. Then back home for a nap. Yup, that's right, this momma got a nap. As in, by myself, no feet kicking me in the ribs, little hands smacking my face, none of that. A 1.5 hour, all by myself nap in the middle of the day on a Saturday. It was heavenly.

Then I woke up and went to here:

Sorry, forgot to get a picture there, so their website provided me with their logo!

They have lots of nifty stuff there for sale in their "boutique" in addition to offering other spa services. I was just there for my hair though. Maybe a massage will be in my future. ;)

I went from this:

To this:

Yay shorter hair! Then Saturday night, one of the besties and I went to the bar for celebratory drinks because she got hired from her externship! Woohoo!! And no, we didn't get shit-hammered, take pictures of ourselves puking in the toilet while flicking off the camera drunk. Just a couple of drinks.

Then I lost at giant Jenga:

It's the first time she beat me and she got it on camera. But it's ok, I got a good one of her last time we went out. Right after she asked if it (the jenga game) was getting taller mind you. I told her no, that she was just shrinking. I still haven't let her live that down.
I promise she doesn't really have a giant black hole for a face

Sunday was a relaxing day at home with H. Nothing really happened. Here she is playing dress-up:
I promise her room wasn't that messy before she started playing.
Now to go catch up on the 18 billion blog posts that I've missed.

Just a little Friday Ranting

Forgive me, today will be a day of ranting.

I don't understand what people don't understand about the whole losing weight thing. It is hard. It is going to be hard. Suck it up and do it. There are millions of people out there that have done it and are in the process of doing it now. What is it that you can't seem to wrap your head around? There is no quick fix. There is no magic pill. No any of that crap. It's called don't shovel food into your face like a bear prepping for hibernation, and get your ass up off of the couch, turn off the television, and MOVE! Go for a walk, go for a run, go to the gym, pop in a work out video, it doesn't matter what you do, just do something!!! You did not gain that extra XXX pounds overnight, so don't expect it to come off overnight. Oh and NEWSFLASH! Losing weight is hella harder than gaining it. I know that I may not be the farthest along in my journey, but if I can even understand this concept, why can't others? It just makes NO sense to me!
If you eat like crap, you're going to feel like crap. If you eat like crap, you will not lose weight. There is no such thing as a "keep the same diet and lose weight" plan.

I also don't understand people that complain about things and then do nothing about them. This can be tied in the with weight loss rant, but was brought on by other things. But seriously, if you want something done, just freakin' do it. don't sit around looking at it and bitching about it while waiting for someone else to come along and do it for you.

Also, people that sit in their own self pity for waaaay too long. I get it, people need some time to just feel bad sometimes. I'm not going to take that from you. But to mope around months at a time because you just can't seem to get your life together. It's absurd. Maybe, just maybe, if you get up and go put yourself out there, you can take the right strides to getting your life back together.Who woulda thunk it?

Reading all of these back, it looks almost as if they could be related. They are not. All from different aspects of goings on in the life of me. I guess the thing that bothers me is people that choose not to take their lives into their own hands and make it into what they want it to be.

On the plus side, I get to go get my new shoes tomorrow! I'm beyond excited! I started trying to run wearing these old crappy shoes and it just isn't working.  I definitely think it's time to trade these bad boys in. Notice the holes I've worn in the fabric in the backs of them?

Also, my grandma is amazing! Have I mentioned that lately? Because she is. She's letting me have a "me day" tomorrow. She's going to take H with her for the day so that I can go get my shoes, aaannnnddd she's giving me money to go get my hair done. I only get it done once or twice a year because I just never have the money for it. She saw a picture from right after I had it done last (back in December) and told me that I should get it done again.

Tonight I get to go hang out with two of my favorite ladies ever to help one of them prep for her wedding this December. This looks like a promising weekend. I'm pretty excited. True story.

What are your plans for the weekend? Anything interesting going on?

Weigh-in Wednesday

Remember how I said that I had lost that extra little bit that made me hit the 10 pound mark but how I didn't want to count it yet because I only count Wednesdays....This week is why. I stepped on the scale this morning and saw a 1.4 pound gain from last Wednesday.  That means that I have not in fact hit that stupid 10 pound mark. That margarita and Mexican food from the weekend didn't help. Neither did the three sodas that I had this past week...or the oreo truffle mix that I just haaad to taste while I was making them. *sigh* But it lit a fire under my ass and back on track I go.

The Truffles I made for Boss' Day

I had a crap day yesterday. I saw a horrid picture of myself on facebook from a month and a half ago.

Awwww, isn't H so cute! But see that whale in the back. blech, no bueno. Seeing that made me want to simultaneously cry, throw up, and hit things. It also made me REALLY want one of the cupcakes or truffles that were in the office kitchen. And it really made me want Chick-Fil-A for lunch since I had left mine at home.

Instead, I went into the bathroom at work and took these:

Then I went into the shops (which is like downtown's version of a mini mall), walked past the Chick-Fil-A, past the America's Cookie Factory, past the awesome barbeque place, past the awesome cajun food place, and straight to Salata where I got this for lunch:

Drank a metric ass ton of water too!

Then I went home and laced up and went for a run...in the rain.

After my run/walk thing
I've heard that running is a mental game so many times but last night I found it out for myself. I had a crappy day and was down on myself and thus I ended up having a crappy run. I walked more than C25k dictated that I should, some of my "runs" were barely more than a walk, but you know what? I did it. And I'm proud of myself for that. Had you told me a few months ago that I'd be running in the rain after a crappy day I would've laughed in your face. Yet here I am, and I sure as hell did it.

So here's to a better week because as we all know, shit could be worse.

Let's Talk Tattoos!

Today I'm linking up with Melanie over at 4Kottiez to talk about tattoos! Yes, I have them and yes I love them. I love them because they have a meaning behind them. I'm the type of person that wont just flippantly get a tattoo. I think about it for months. Then, once I decide what I want, I make myself think about it for a minimum of 6 months before doing anything about it. (Usually longer because bills come first.)

ANYWAYS, onward!

I got my first tattoo at 18. It is something that a friend drew for me in High School and I loved it so much I instantly knew that it would at some point in my life be transferred from paper to my skin. It reminds me of her and the friendship that we shared despite the fact that we've grown apart. I also like to think of it as a representation of my Great Grandmother always watching over my shoulder. I still miss her but I know that she's still with me

Sorry for the crappy sideways shot but apparently trying to take a picture of your shoulder by yourself because you forgot about it the night before isn't all that easy.

The guy that did that tattoo actually ended up opening up his own shop and used that as the first page of his main flash book. It was really strange to see someone walking down the street with my (original) tattoo on their wrist.

My next tattoo was my 21st birthday present to myself. A LOT of thought went into this one.

It is seven stars to represent the seven most important and/or influential people in my life at the time (and I can always add to it!). I chose stars because they often represent a guiding light and that accurately represents the message I was trying to portray with the whole important/influential thing. I chose to put it behind my right ear to draw attention to that ear over my left. Why you ask? Studies have shown that when you speak to someone and direct it to their right ear over their left, they are more likely to understand you, comprehend what you're saying, and retain what you've said. I even went so far as doing color research to make sure that each person was properly represented.

Everyone always asks if this hurt. It didn't. It actually almost put me to sleep and I tried to talk the tattoo artist into going over it all again. He wouldn't. I was sad.

I plan on getting more, I'm addicted. I will have two butterflies for reasons that are more personal than anything I'd really like to discuss here and I will also be getting 3 birds to commemorate my first 5K. I'm thinking that if I run more after that I will continue to get one bird for every mile I run. As in, 3 for a 5K, 3 more if I run a 10K etc. They will all be small and discretely placed, but they will be there!  I'll also probably end up with something referencing batman somewhere. I'm a smidgen bit obsessed and have been since I was little but that's a different story for a different day. I also know that I want something music related but haven't decided what yet.

What a weekend!

Saw some pretty skies on the way home Friday:

Got home and found out that my grandma was going to take H and I out to eat. Sweet! We ended up at a Mexican restaurant. Uh-oh. I ended up having one of these:
and too much of this:

But holy schnikies Batman was it amazing. I ended up regretting it all later when I was too full and a smidgen bit tipsy and didn't get my scheduled C25K in.

Saturday I ended up doing some around the house cleaning and such. Got 30 DS done in the morning and had C25K planned since I had missed Friday's (oops). Well my grandma was having lunch with friends so it was just H and I at home and she had passed out. crap.

So, I laced up and hit the back yard determined to get it in. Started going laps around the backyard but my grass needs to be cut. Plus, in case you've forgotten I'm Queen Klutz. I almost twisted my ankle on three separate occasions before I was even halfway done!! No bueno. But I didn't want to quit. I was determined. So I took myself inside and finished up by running/walking laps around my house. I felt like an idiot but I got it done and that's what matters.

Then I went with my best friend to see this aca-awesome movie:
It was seriously amazing!!! Everyone needs to see it. I'm probably going to see it again with another friend.

We ate waaay too much popcorn. Oh yeah, I had popcorn for dinner. Real nutritious huh. Between the two of us we ate 3/4 of a medium bag of popcorn and were both miserable. Now I don't know if it's just because we ate too much or if the popcorn or butter wasn't good because we both ended up seeing our popcorn again before the night was over. But I won't disgust ya'll with those details.

Sunday H went to a bday party with her dad since it was during his visitation time. I did laundry, went to the store, and  cooked an AWESOME dinner.

That's a turkey burger patty made with one of the Kraft Fresh Takes (sorry, I already forgot which one), roasted carrots and squash, and a spinach salad with a balsamic vinaigrette.

Then I tried to do my scheduled C25k. Yes, you read that right, tried. I had to stop halfway through which sucked. I don't think trying to do it two days in a row is in the cards for me right now. I'm still trying to figure this whole running thing out. My right calf started to hurt. I'm not talking sore hurt either, it still friggin hurts. I even iced it afterwards. I'm giving myself tonight off and will do it tomorrow and then every other day from that point forward. I'm also counting down the days until this momma can get a new pair of running shoes.

Hope everyone has a fantastic Monday!

Because we all know that children can't lie.....

Can we all have a moment of silence for the awesomeness that is Friday?

Nah, I'd rather scream it to the world and dance around like the fool that I am. **Happy Friday Dance**

ANYWAYS! Children. We love them right? Most of the time anyways. I kid, I kid, I love H. She's awesome. When she's not driving me bat shit crazy.

Lately I've been working with H on the concept of truth vs. lies. It's been going pretty well and she understands the concept the problem is, she thinks she's slick. She's always thought that just because she's cute she should be able to get away with EVERYTHING. Last night was no exception. I picked her up from daycare and on the way home the following conversation ensues:

"I don't like [my school] anymore."
"Well, why not baby?"
"It doesn't make me happy"
Mommie mode kicks into high gear and I start thinking of who I need to ream for each situation that could possibly come out of her mouth
"Why not?"
"Because. My teachers always put me in time out."
I should've known
"Did you go to time out today?"
I glace in my rearview mirror and shes looking down at the seat next to her
"Are you sure?"
"Is that a truth or a lie?"
"It's a truth mommie!!!"
She's so full of shit, it's coming out of her ears
"So if I call your teacher will she tell me that you went to time out?"
"Ok, so I can call her then?"
"Why not?
"Because I was in time out"

So we go through why she was in time out (Not listening ...big surprise there, NOT)  and then why she lied. We talked again about listening and about the importance of telling the truth no matter what etc.

Let me just take a moment to say that I am NOT looking forward to her teenage years. She is way to much like me plus she's got enough of her daddy in her that the prospect of a teenage H scares the crap out of me.

But how can you not love that face?

Is it Friday yet?

I am sooo ready for this week to be over already! And I get the joys of working late tonight..woo hoo right... Not so much.

Anyways, sooo I weighed myself again this morning. Yes I am a scale whore and I probably need help. They should have scale whore anonymous. I'm down another .4 pounds from yesterday which doesn't seem like a big deal right? WRONG! That puts me at the 10 pound mark which was my first mini goal! It's not an official number yet though because despite the fact that I weigh myself daily, I only count my Wednesday weigh-ins like a good girl. Regardless, that made me crazy happy this morning.

Since Monday's C25k walk/jog type thing was such a huge failure, I re-did W1D1 yesterday and did much better. I completed it plus did two extra reps before calling it quits. I did the extra because though I was fine as far as the endurance part was concerned, I kept having to cut the jogging parts short by about 10 seconds because my legs were freaking KILLING me. I'm wearing a year old pair of $40 nikes and I think a lot of my problems stems from them. I paid a lot of attention to the pain, where it hurt, and how my feet fell when I took each step. Both legs hurt in different places and it was very centralized. The right leg was the bottom part of the inside of my calf while the left leg was the upper part of the back of my calf. Strange right? At least I thought it was. So once I figured that out I started paying attention to the way I walk. It turns out when I walk, I walk on the outsides of my feet.

Looks like I'll be taking a trip to the running store soon. Looking at going either to Luke's Locker or Fleet Feet. Any recommendations?

Found this and loved it! thought I would share:

In other news: I think I may have fallen in love this morning....with my coffee. I felt like a zombie this so I made a Starbucks run. But I'm too broke for the $4 and $5+ lattes they have so I just got a bold coffee (their Komodo blend) with a smidgen of toffee syrup. No cream, no extra sugar, just the toffee and I was in heaven! .Oh, and did I mention it was less than $2!

Weigh in Wednesday

Who has two thumbs and is down 1.6 pounds from last week? This lady! It might not seem like much, but damnit I'm proud of it. Oh and did you see what I did there? I'm down that much, not I 'lost' that much. I sure as hell don't want to find that 1.6 pounds lying around anywhere.

I started C25k on Monday and will be going out again tonight. Monday night wasn't pretty. I tried damnit but holy crap turds that was hard. I am so freakin' out of shape I may as well be a damn abstract painting.

I sent my cousin a text message that said "kill me! I'm too fat for this!" then another one that said "I feel like I'm going to die. And throw up...at the same time". Hopefully I can pull it off a little better today.

Speaking of that lovely lady my cousin, she and I are going to be signing up for the Santa Hustle 5K in Galveston. The only reason I haven't yet is I need to get paid so that I can pay that registration fee. I tend to do better when I have a tangible goal so that's mine. To be able to run a 5K by 12/23. And I told my cousin that my goal is to run the whole thing without stopping to walk. We're both doing the C25k program and will be running together once on the weekends up until the race. I'm super excited about this even though it might kill me!

I'm also  refocusing my goals. Obviously I still want to lose weight, but my main goal right now is not my weight loss. That will just be my added bonus. My goal right now is to be able to run that damn 5k. I printed out a calendar this morning that covers from now until the race and I have set it up as follows.

Sun: C25k
Mon: 30DS (or RI30 once I'm done with the shred)
Tue: C25k
Wed: 30DS or RI30
Thurs: C25k
Sat:30DS or RI30

This week is a little off because I started it without a plan but I'm getting back at it.

OH!! And I just found out that I'm going to be a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding on 12/29. So It will be Sunday race, Tuesday Christmas, Saturday wedding, and then New Years! It will be one busy week for me.

Commit for Life

Donating blood is something that I do and something that i try to get anyone and everyone I know to do. People don't realize how important it is to donate blood and to do it quarterly. I have made the commitment and I intend to keep it. I try to do the Double red cell donation every time I donate it just depends on my hematocrit levels. It's kind of a 'more bang for your buck' type thing.

Me sporting my Commit for life Tee before my attempted run last night

I am O- which is the universal blood type. That means that anyone that needs it can accept my blood. However, did you know that as a person with an O- blood type, should anything happen to me, I can only receive O- blood. Another fact, less than 8% of the population is O-.

AB- is an even rarer blood type; less than 1% have this blood type. However they have more options when it comes to both receiving and donating blood.  O- and AB- are the most sought after blood types when it comes to blood donations due to how rare they are and how many uses they have.

O+ is the most common blood type followed by A+.

Me hooked up to the apheresis machine doing my double red cell donation today!

Another plus to donating is I can sign in online and monitor my cholesterol, blood pressure, and a few other things after every donation. It's a good way to keep an eye on your health.

A few extra facts from www.americasblood.org

  1. 4.5 million Americans will a need blood transfusion each year.
  2. 43,000 pints: amount of donated blood used each day in the U.S. and Canada.
  3. Someone needs blood every two seconds.
  4. About 1 in 7 people entering a hospital need blood.
  5. One pint of blood can save up to three lives.
  6. Children being treated for cancer, premature infants and children having heart surgery need blood and platelets from donors of all types, especially type O.
  7. A patient could be forced to pass up a lifesaving organ, if compatible blood is not available to support the transplant
  8. 17 percent of non-donors cite "never thought about it" as the main reason for not giving, while 15 percent say they're too busy.
  9. The #1 reason blood donors say they give is because they "want to help others."
  10.  Blood centers often run short of types O and B red blood cells
I challenge all of you to go out there and donate. You can make the difference. You can save someone's life. If I can commit, so can you!

Pinned it and did it

I kill a lot of time on pinterest and I pin a lot of stuff. Not that I ever think I'll get around to it, i just like it so I pin it. Why? Because...well, no reason really. It actually makes about zero sense. Again, it's a waste of time and I know it. Every now and then I'll try something that I see there and last night was one of those nights.

I have a baby shower coming up this weekend so I thought I would get a smidgen bit crafty. And I say smidgen bit because it's so easy anyone could do it.

Here is the original pin..

Awww, cute right?! Onesies and socks turned into cupcakes, ah-freakin-dorable!

Here's the low-down, they are cure. And they are easy. BUT they work best with NEWBORN size onesies. Otherwise you WILL have a hard time getting them to fit into the cupcake liner.

I'm a broke B and a procrastinator so the cute little cupcake box thing from Micheals will not exist in this blog. Moving forward!

You're going to need onesies, (dur) socks, tape, cupcake liners, and some sort of box like thing to put them in.

(I love baby clothes, they are too friggin cute and they are soooo tiny! I wish H was still that small...only let her stay potty trained please! Kthanks!

Fold the onesie lengthwise twice. Really cruddy picture, this was before I had it fully figured out, but the only picture of this stage I took, the one from the original pin was better. It was late, cut me some slack.

Roll up the sock and place it on the folded up onesie with the tip just over the edge. The sock is supposed to be the "cherry" but since this was for a boy, the colors were a little off.

Roll that sucker up and tape it in place! Then into the cupcake liner it goes.

As you can see, it didn't quite fit into the cupcake liner for me. Then again, I don't believe in buying NEWBORN size clothes for baby showers because I think that it's pointless and a waste of money.

This is the best one by far. And yes, I was watching Grimm while doing this...in my bed... Don't judge me.

My box would only fit three of the four since I had the different sizes. I bought 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, and 12 months.
When I had H I was sooo thankful to have those clothes in the larger sizes because it meant less shopping and less money for me to have to spend. I always try to pass that gift along. Same for diapers, I always buy size 2 or 3.
Finished Product!

Side note, another thing I usually do at baby showers is make the mom a "mommie basket" so she knows that she hasn't been forgotten about. It differs from person to person but I tend to put things like a pair of pj pants, a candle, lotion, a coffee mug, bubble bath, reed diffusers, that kind of stuff. Stuff just for mom.
